Singles 2

During the first week of December I took a break from my Poser projects to play Singles 2, a game I bought more than a year ago but only now have had time to play. Singles 1 and Singles 2 are very similar to Sims 2, but the graphics are somewhat better and sex is actually built into the game. Unlike the Sims, the characters come with realistic nude skins complete with pubic hair and penises on the men.

For serious players, Sims has some advantages over Singles.  I have not seen any user-created outfits for Singles like the ones created for Sims. Another advantage Sims has over Singles is the fact that in Sims your character can move about from place to place, while in Singles there are only two places: home and the bar.

There are two ways to play Singles 2, either go with the story line the authors create, in which the main character, Anna, is trying to win back her old boyfriend Josh, or select your own characters from scratch and make your own apartment. I tried both ways and played both game plots up to the point I managed to get characters to hop in bed. I found that in the pre-set game plot Josh is a jerk and it is very hard for Anna to get anywhere with him. The third roommate, Kim, was a much easier target for Anna’s affections, so I worked on her instead. The screenshots showing the woman with short dark hair and the Asian with pig-tails are from the original game story, the ones showing the tanned woman and the blond woman are from my own game plot. I cropped the screenshots from my game, which is why the sizes of the thumbnails are uneven.

For those of you who prefer looking at men, yes I know, most of the screenshots are only of women. Sorry about that, but I did start a new game with a guy and over time I'll catch him in action so you can see what male characters in Singles look like. I tried having Anna go after Josh, but in the game he's such a jerk I gave up. So, Josh won't get any exposure on this page.

A couple of words of warning about playing either Singles 1 or Singles 2:

There are two versions of the game, the European uncensored version and the US censored version. To see the characters in the nude you have to buy the European version. Your best bet is to get it online, although I got mine at Fry’s. That’s warning number one.

Warning number two: even with the uncensored version, the game has to be modified by the user in notepad if you really want to see anything. There are several things you need to do by opening a game after you initiate it, which involves going into the program folder on your C: drive and altering critical files with notepad. It’s a bit unnerving at first, but if you make backup copies of anything you alter, you can always start over. Required changes include: replacing the game command for underwear outfit for each character with the game command for the nude skin, changing the contents of the blanket command file to make the blanket invisible, and re-setting the pixelization setting to remove the censor blur. In my case I also replaced the swimsuit with the nude skin, so my characters automatically swim, sleep, and shower in the nude. Once they finish the activity that makes them get nude, they stay nude unless they see another character with whom they are not intimate. There are several other modifications you can make, including adding more money to your apartment and setting your characters’ skills higher so it is easier for them to do things such as cleaning and tell jokes.
